carb rebuild and 1075 kit was created by cruspeed
I'm going to have to buy some carb rebuild kits and not sure which is best for me. I'm going to have a 1075 kit on my bike and I have a choice of what size of jets I need. Now thinking that the engine will pull more vacuum I will need smaller jets but here are the 2 kit sizes. I think the ebay kit will work for me but need some advise before I do anything. I don't live in the mountains if that matters.

Pilot Jet 15 and 17.5

you will need bigger mains than that, i'd recommend at least 115 or 117 to start the pilots use the 17 or go to a 20 pilot

I've got to clean and rebuild the carbs on my '77 KZ1000A1 . Any recommendations on high quality carb kits and where to get them ?

Not to hijack an old thread, but I just had my 900 turned into a 1075. I'm running the stock airbox with a K&N filter and an unknown 4-2 exhaust. I'm running the stock cams. Carbs are the stock VM26 carbs from the Kz900. I increased the main jet to 120 and left the pilot alone. It starts and idles fine. Drives okay until I lay on it and then it hits a wall hard at about 6000-7000 rpms. Would this typically be a lean condition versus a rich condition? I thought I would be too rich with the 120 main versus to lean.

Would test run with fuel cap ajar to rule out possible fuel starvation due to clogged vent in cap.

Also check for clogged petcock screen or clogged in-line fuel filter.

Oem Mikuni 26's on KZ900 are very user friendly carbs. And generally perform quite well over a fairly wide spectrum of mods. Kawasaki kept 26's on the KZ1000's in 1977 and '78.

Am running a 1015 KZ900 with airbox K&N and 4>1 Kerker with oem 26's in standard configuration, and enjoying strong performance throughout the throttle range.

26mm (VM26SS) KZ900A4 & A5
Main Jet 115
Air Jet 1.0
Needle Jet O-6
Jet Needle 5DL31-3 (middle clip position)
Throttle valve (slide) 1.5mm cutaway
Pilot Jet 17.5
Air Screw setting 1 3/8 turns out (beginning)


Maybe the extra 60cc is too much for the 26's, but I wouldn't give up on them quite yet. At least not before ruling out most everything else.

Thanks for the info, Patton. I'm pretty sure my exhaust is more restrictive than your Kerker, so I'm betting I could use a similar setup and run fine. This confirms (for me) that I overshot the main jet and should be running extremely rich at WOT. I must be having a fuel starvation issue. I'll have to start back at square one and troubleshoot.

When you have it WFO and it hits the wall, apply the choke. If it runs better, use larger jetts. If it runs worse, use smaller jetts.

You can also try:

Go along in 5th gear at about 45-50 mph, pull it wide open and hold it. If it picks-up and goes, main jet is okay. if it falls on it's face, use a richer jet.
