My 29's have a tiny removeable brass air jet fitted just inside entrance to the air passageway in the pilot circuit. It is #12 on the following diagram (Part No. BS/97 Air Jet). However, I understand some 29's have a non-removeable pressed-in air jet, but am unfamilar with the pressed-in type.
[please see better pic in next post]
Am thinking if the jet is possibly missing, too much air could be allowed to the pilot jet thereby cauiing an over-lean mixture. Or if either type air jet has been "reamed" larger by cleaning efforts, could result in the same too much air problem.
Will show the BS/97 Air Jet in a separate post.
Just random thoughts.
Good Luck!

Thanks Patton, I will be sure to check that out.
I checked to make sure there no obstructions but no the size or even if anything was missing. But that is a good point I will be sure to check.

I see I never updated this thread.
The float height should be 23mm.
I took an extra fuel bowl plug, drilled it and installed a tube and hose to check the float level
I found the float level was too low.
The cure was to Raise the Float level, remove the 140 mains and go with 122.5 mains.
My carb does not have brass floats - it has black plastic floats. I am guessing that it came with brass floats and someone changed them out and the float level needed to be differant than the listed specs.

33 year old 1105 Superbike Mike motor, 10.25-1, ported head, SBM 395 lift street cams, Kerker pipe 17.5 pilots and 120 mains, std needle setting @ 3700 ft in Momtana. Idle mix screw about 1/2 turn out. Doesnt it foul plugs that rich, sounds like a major vacuum leak to me.

the problem was that it was too lean due to the float level being too low.
I have black plastic floats. I am thinking that the float level specs I found are for the brass floats and someone changed them out for the plastic floats. these floats when set to 23mm made the float level about 5mm too low when checked with a clear tube. raising the float level cured the problem. There is no telling what kind of carbs my floats came from.
