You have those junk transition carbs. (Sorry for the bad words). I doubt anyone in the world knows how to tune those. According to Kawasaki they say turn the pilot screws (4 adjustments on the bottom of the carbs) all the way in, then turn the air screws out 2 turns. I question this procedure, but that's what they say. Assuming all those parts in your picture did actually come from your carburetors. I don't see the pilots or main jets were replaced. Sounds like one of your pilot jets is clogged.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

you said you put B7ES plugs in, it should have B8ES, you are running a colder plug, it may not be firing correct with that plug

From NGK's website "For Japanese manufacturers (NGK, Denso), the higher the number, the colder the plug."

NGK lists the B7ES as the stock plug for 77-79 KZ650B, C's etc..

Under my seat it lists B7ES, my Clymer says B7ES etc...

I had thought they were VM 24

Dirty.....Don't know this fitting.

Carbs were synced, or so I was told. I should have just insisted I could do it myself. Then at least I'd know these carbs intimately...

So I'm going to adjust fuel and air screws, then pull and clean thoroughly otherwise....or is the suggestion that I get different carbs? I'm unfamilliar with the reference "transition".

I am going thru the carb issue deal, the carb you show looks like the ones I have on the ltd1000, according to wg, they are off a suzi, and a pain in the butt to make run right.

I will look at the book, the lower the number the colder the plug, I am running 7s and 6s in the race cars, we run high rpm and lots of compression, so it takes a cold plug to keep the preignition away

Champion and everyone else I know of numbers their plugs, the higher the number the hotter the plug, for some reason NGK does just the opposite the higher the number the colder the plug.

My memory must be slipping, I thought I was told the fuel screws (the ones on the bottom in front only get turned out 1/4 of a turn. Me bad.
