Building your own carb sync tool--source for gauges
30 Apr 2007 09:06
I have been considering building my own carb sync tool using four vacuum gauges. A while back, someone here posted a link to an E-Bay seller that sells the gages cheap ($3.50 ea).
But I hesitated because I could not find a source for the damper valves. I saw some people here posting suggestions for making your own dampers. While I'm sure they worked fine, they just seemed a little hokey to me, and I wanted to find a more "elegant" solution.
So I kept looking for damper valves. Couldn't find them. So finally, I just wrote the company that sells the gauges on E-Bay and asked them what they recommend.
They told me that for $0.75 extra each, they could put a plug into the gauge orifice that would take care of the needle vibration. :woohoo:
Problem solved.
So I just ordered these gauges today. We'll see how they work when I get them, but I wanted to just post a link to this company's E-Bay store in case anyone else here is looking to do the same thing.

So far, I can say that they have been very helpful and responsive to my requests. I'll post more when I actually get the gauges.

You can't beat the price though. Individualy those gauges are $25.00-$40.00.
I would make these. The full set on E-Bay is always $50.00 to $125.00. for the real synchronizers. Just get the dampers from them. Sweet deal.

What was the shipping charge? I've considered getting some of their gauges but will probably get ready made carb sync tool (I'm gettin' tired of making tools n' jigs). JMK.

Update:
I received my gauges from Noshok. I mounted them on a metal bar, attached hose barb adapters and vacuum hoses, then hooked them up to my carbs.
Worked like a charm! I was able to get my carbs dialed in so that they are now synchronized.

Okay, I went to the web site (and thanks for that!), and I hate being 'needy', but could somebody tell me exactly which of those gages to get...there seem to be several options and I'm not 'dialed in' (pardon the pun) on which one I need, exactly.
Next question: are they better than my mercury sticks?
Thanks for the help!!!

On about the 3rd page of that site they have vaccumm guages of different physical sizes,, ie: 1.5'" 2", 2.5"
any of them will work.
I also noticed they have 0 to 15 PSI. pressure gauges, can anyone say OIL PRESSURE,, for the same $3.40 :woohoo: :woohoo:

Be sure you contact the seller before or just after the sale to tell them that you want to have them insert the small orifice to reduce needle vibration. They will charge you an extra $0.75 ea for this.
