any ideas?

Would suggest checking/adjusting ignition timing and valve clearances, and checking compression, all before getting to carbs. As carb function depends on these other things (and proper spark) all being correct, carbs should usually be the final tuning item.:)

If you take your carbs off and cant get your air box back on, its much cheaper to get pod filters than new boots. If you do get pod filters just remember to get bigger jets.

0o.k guy's heres the deal i just happend on another post in the engine section titled problems..... that description is exactly what my problem right down to the 4-1 header with the packing gone ..... as i will still check all the electrical connections.....
my question is : is it possible to sync the carbs without the specialty tools that most guys use, say maybe by "sound"? or another "cheap way" im almost positive its probably a lean mix + gummed up work's ( so to speak, any ideas ( im sure someone here has done exactly what im talking abou...... dont get me wrong i understand this may take longer or is not the correct way of doing things, but the last thing i wanna do right now in the middle of march is rebuild the whole damn bike( thats a winter project, not a spring project) and before the question gets asked, when i ride and get above 5,000 it does come to life
