I tried that once myself. You talk about a mess. I'm glad it was a nice, warm night as my leg 'bout froze as it was.

Please forgive if repeat questions.

Is an in-line fuel filter in place?

What vacuum lines? Are these stock carbs?

Sounds like re-cleaning may be necessary -- float needle/seat area and pilot circuit (fuel and air).

Carb overflow through the overflow spigots results from failure of the float needle properly seating in the base, which thereby allows excess fuel to pass on through into the flow bowls.

Fuel leakage from the float bowl may also result from a damaged float bowl gasket or loose/stripped float bowl screws, but this will be from around the top of the float bowl and not through the overflow spigots.

there is no inline fuel filters, yes stock carbs (28mm i belive) the vacume lines (nipples) right above the fuel inlet! the floats all spring back up when pushed down...

The "vacuum lines" are also known as air vent pipes which are supposed to be open and usually have a tube connected running to the underseat area.)

An in-line fuel filter would help assure no additional incoming crud to frustrate the ongoing cleaning process.

Proper cleaning requires carbs being on the work bench.

Considering diy?

Please refer to the latest several posts in the following link for some cleaning suggestions believed also applicable to the '74KZ carbs in question.

Efforts should be concentrated in the float area for now.
