I think Dean Adams intimated that in the article. He said the bike was not for sale despite Lawson being offered a million for it. What a beautiful bike. And what a legend.

At an AMA road race when my son was 9 or 10 we got to visit with both Eddie Lawson and Freddie Spencer. Both were very nice and friendly, signed a ton of autographs for the son and Eddie even let him sit on his race bike for a picture with him.

I met Spencer at Barber back in 2002. There was a line to meet Nicky Hayden and Spencer was just hanging out to the side. I recognized him, got out of line and spoke to him. One of the nicest people I have ever met. He was surprised I knew who he was which shocked me. Hayden is fantastic and what not, but Spencer was then and still is a legend. He signed my helmet and chatted about the racing world for a solid 15 minutes. I've never met Lawson would love to. My wife and son and I went to VIR this year for the Motoamerica races and I was able to meet Randy Mamola. Swore I would never wash my hand again... another humble, incredible person.

Cool stories.
Being in Canada on the West Coast I didn't get to see these guys at all except on TV many years later.
Nothing was ever on TV in Canada that I ever saw. except some of the local races in Canada.
But years ago I saw Wes Cooley live race at Westwood racetrack in BC. A total surprise! it was a superbike race and just wicked to watch.
He had never been there before (I don't think) and came in 3rd if I remember right.
Must have been about 1992 I think.
Sadly Westwood racetrack got torn down not long after and they built more stupid condos in it's place.
Never met any pro racers but would love to meet Lawson for a quick chat one day.
Actually any of those early 80's racers would be a treat to chat with.
