I took my mostly stock 1980 750 LTD to the local strip this past weekend with a couple of friends seeing what the bike would do. My best pass was 13.36. I think the bike could do a little better if I could get better with my launches. I was pretty nervous and big wheelie put some fear in me. It was a lot of fun though, we're going to try a sprocket change and a few other things to see if I can get it down in the 12's. There were only 2 other guys on bikes that night. A stretched Busa that did an 8.9 @ low 150's and another guy with a ZX-14 stretched with a wheelie bar that did a couple of low 9 sec passes in the high 140's. He also had a 1200 sportster that my tired old 750 was almost keeping up with. But he had a wheelie bar hahaha!

It doesn't look like those lines match up, but the 60 ft time is the 2.022# not the 5.4 secs. That's the 330 ft time. I don't know what the DIAL is for? The 1/8 mile is 8.4 @ 81. Seems I ran a little better than that 750E.

JR: It really is incredible how powerful these bikes are for how old they are. I've smoked my friends modern 900 and 1100 cc cruisers and on a bike that I paid $325 for hahaha! Now I'm itching to bring my big bore 1000 LTD to the track and really scare myself!

Tell her its the safest place to run your bike. No cops, no one talking on their cell phone or pulling out in front of you. Don't expect to put down crazy fast passes. It's all in the launch and to do it well you have to have tons of experience and balls much larger than my own. After a couple passes I realized how difficult it is to do well consistently. As far as tuning goes, we didn't mess around too much as I was just getting used to launching on a track. But eventually we got around to advancing and retarding the timing and letting air out of the back tire. My best passes I was running 20 PSI

Ya launches are difficult. I practice my launches out in the road in front of house all the time. but its still not quite the same as on the track. I almost always am running around 18 to 20 psi in the rear. As already said, The wheelies and the rear tire breaking loose is what gets me.

It's all about the seat time at the track practice on the street
help's get the sequence of launching the bike but will not make up for the traction
at the track..
Next time out don't worry about making full pass's just work on your 60 ft time's
and the 1-2 shift the ET's will come down.
Here's a goal for you my little bike's gone

My best 60 foot time was 1.91. It felt really fast until I watched a video of one of my passes and it looks painfully slow off the line. I geared the bike down a little bit when I did the 530 chain conversion. My friends and I will be going again in January and I'm going to try losing a tooth on the front sprocket and see if I can get the times down a little bit. One of the cylinders has a bad ring and low compression so if I can address that issue, probably wouldn't hurt either.

If it wheelie's now gearing down will make it worst.
Get a strap setup and suck the front down as far as you can will help.
If you plan on running it alot I'd get a longer swing arm to swap in for track trip's.
Used arm's 6-8 inch longer can be found cheap.

I pulled my arm tonight to add 5 1/2 inch will put me 8" over stock wheel base
