Z1 Timing Advancer - 74 or 75?
28 Jun 2026 09:45 - 28 Jun 2026 09:53
Z1 Timing Advancer, was told it was not a 73 by someone so figure its 74 or 75? It is missing the notched cam sleeve, but otherwise in good shape.
Came off a 1075 drag bike engine, guy said it came on "faster" than a KZ1000 unit.
$35 USD, shipping extra (part is in Ontario, Canada)

Looks to be in Good shape and..resprung with aftermarket advance weight springs. Originals were a darker color. Any hoot, it's the 20/40 degree later Kokusan advancer. Used on the "split year 1974 late Z1 900. I've a bag of these for photo comparison, i'll find it tomorrow morning so you can see the differences between the years.

By my opinion price is just fine. Has the qualities of a nice advance unit. Your weights still have the rubber dampers intact and looks like that thin shim is still intact and not splintered like a lot you will find. Missing the points eccentric because previous owner was most likely using electronic style magnetic P/U of various branding. Found these at first grab, original points lobes. They used the one you are showing till they went to the 005 KZ900 style. Then the last iteration KZ1000 1003 points style till 1979. I have a box of completed assemblies...somewhere.

Service Bulletin SER 74 Z-30 documents the change in advancers and their respective advance curves.
The advancer in the OP is the later one, P/N 21148-005, commencing with Z1E-032866.
Concurrent with the change of advancers, Z1E-032866 is also where Mama Kaw changed carbs from the earlier type with the 17mm float bowl drain plugs to the later carbs w/ screw drain plugs, along with many internal changes to jetting, floats, slide cutaways, etc. The carb changes are documented in Service Bulletin SER 74 Z-31.

Thanks both for listing that info.
Yes, the PO was using a Dyna S ignition rotor, so points cams was never with me.
