1982 KZ440

I'm offering for sale my 1982 KZ440. I purchased it back around 2005 and rode for a number of years, but things got busy and it has been sitting in my garage for too long now and it needs to move along.

The condition overall is good. Odometer read just short of 13000 miles and has a clean title. The tank was custom painted before I bought it. It has flaws but the finish is still excellent. The left side cover is painted to match, but the right cover was lost by a previous owner and is now a generic black. The rest of the bike is in good original condition and you have to get close to see anything beyond simple age related patina. The seat has no tears and a few imperfections. I'm not a detailer so the condition you see it in is just my wiping everything down with basic cleaner. It has no major rust helped by the fact that I always kept it in a dry garage and didn't ride in the rain if avoidable.

Now for the bad. I've been tinkering with this off and on for the last few years getting it ready for sale and I can't get it to run properly. Of course, it ran great the last season I had it on the road, but not currently. It starts well but runs lean, so it also doesn't respond to throttle inputs well at all. Mechanically everything seems right, but it runs like there is a vacuum leak that I can't find. Carb boots are good and soft, carb diaphragms have repairs but no holes, plugs look fine, pilot screw adjustments have no effect, spark is strong. It will idle and will rev with some choke assistance and sounds great otherwise with no smoke. I don't think it is ridable as is. I'm a good mechanic but I'm out of ideas so hopefully someone else will fix and enjoy it.

I've recently replaced the fork seals, petcock seals, carb kits, new battery, changed the oil and filter, and the brake fluid. I also replaced the coil as part of my diagnostics, but will include the take off coil as I'm sure it is still good. Not too long before I stopped riding I replaced the chain and sprockets. The rear I recall is a 35 tooth, but to be more well rounded should really be a 40 in my opinion. The tires were on the bike when I bought it, so they need to be replaced. They have good tread but have cracking on the side walls.

Make me an offer. I have no idea what this is really worth with the combination of issues and features it has. I have many more photos as needed.
