Kawasaki KZ1000 1978 LTD

Before the snow flies in the Midwest of Kansas. Any interest in this bird? What You see looks haggard and out of sorts but believe me there are redeeming qualities not pictured. I've rebuilt all the missing crap sitting in as close to as i have out here, a clean environment. Enrich Your winter stable with this bird and whittle the time away building the Kawasaki of Your dreams, ha. Inquire if it peaks your interest and will overwhelm you with details.

Hey Clay,

For those of a less trusting nature than me, you might want to clarify what this means...

I've rebuilt all the missing crap sitting in as close to as i have out here, a clean environment.

Ed, i know the message/vernacular didn't come out clean, i'm challenged, ha. Rich..You'll get it. An example of all the bits i'd pulled..but.. kept them in the upper house for safekeeping and out of my dusty environment. Rear shocks as one example. NO i just don't flash them with a rattle can!! I have the springs powdercoated/chromed and piston rods checked for trueness and non-leakers with Great damping. I have sub components never intended per FSM service brought back to their original glory..then assemble. The rechrome for the brake pedal, rechrome for the Z1 shocks and powdercoat for the Mulholands No skimpy, skimpy.

Hey Asphalt,
The 1000 LTD is tempting, I like to have a winter project but your a long way from Michigan.
But would you care to share your chrome shop with us?
seems like its getting harder to find a chrome guy.
Thanks Bogie1

It would be a bit of a drive Bogie but think of the tales of travel you could share with the grandkids, ha. YES, chrome shops are getting sparce, even around here. I use a couple different places and have Friends that know more. Hopefully you're not in a hurry, they ALL seem to take at least a month to get your stuff back. There's Family Finishing LLC in St Louis, MO. Tripp Plating in Buffalo, NY. And i also go thru Paul Miller of Suzuki Fame, Paul Miller Motorcycle. A few for ya. It Does make a huge difference but "pick" your battles!! A lot of these fellas can't duplicate the original Industrial/Brushed chrome finish found on a lot of items like the shocks shown. I had a whole mess of springs done but NOT the dampers because of this. Their technique would of filled in the date codes and would of came out WAAAY too shiny. And don't attempt to rechrome bolts unless absolutely necessary. Corners won't be sharp anymore and any raised font (numbered hardware) will be polished off. What are You looking to chrome? Maybe i'm missing your intent because my focus is on restoration, You may be going another direction?

Nice looking resto on those shocks Asphalt.  Far better than original work done by Kawasaki.  The springs on many shocks seldom had a shine like that!

I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar.

Ya I am looking to have shocks done also, I'm not sure how that works they don't come apart.  can they do the shock body with the shock rod and oil in there?  so maybe just the springs, front fender, and the 4 original exhaust pipes from the engine down. my chrome guy wont do the exhaust because the inside of the pipes are to dirty. I'll have to call around
Thanks Bogie

Just to let you know Bogie, those Mulholland shocks are the easiest to take apart! Just set the spring adjuster on the lowest setting and compress spring and remove the upper "aluminum" E-Spring retainer at the top. It can be done without any tools if you have enough grip strength, ha. The Only portion "chromed" is that preload selector! Everything else is Black gloss powercoat. I even have the correct fonted and color match replacement stickers. Just something to consider.. They used these LTD Mulholland single spring shocks starting in 1976 on the shown LTD900 up thru 77-78 LTD1000, nothing changed. And.. if Street Fighter LTD, name says it all, ha, can do it let him guide you!! If You have the correct Jardines. They had two different versions BTW.
