1981 GPz 550 - 33k miles
20 Apr 2025 14:35 - 20 Apr 2025 15:01
1981 GPz 550 purchased as second owner in the fall of 1985 from the dealership which had sold it originally. I was told it had set on the showroom floor unsold until 1984 when it was sold to the original owner.
I then rode it all through college. It started collecting dust around 1989 when I started having children and by 2000 I wasn’t riding it at all. I got back into riding ~2005 but my adult weight suggested I needed a larger bike !! So I bought a much larger bike and gave the GPz to a friend in 2008 who rode it a bit but parked it again until around ~2010 and it sat unridden again until his wife made him get it out of the garage in 2022 when he gave it back to me.
At that point I cleaned it up, completely rebuilt the brakes including new brake lines, a new rear cylinder (actually a cylinder for a 250 Ninja which worked perfectly). I also repaired a leaky carburetor and cleaned up some rust on the frame. At that point I also removed the 4into1 that had been on it since I originally bought it and reinstalled the factory 2into1s (that I had also been given to me when I bought it in 1985). It was missing the clamps and spacers needed to mount then so I had to track those down. (It sounded much cooler with the 4into1, but I wanted it to be more original. I will include the 4into1.)
I put a new battery in it in 2022. Its rear tire needs replaced.
It was a bit of a classic back in the day. It now runs well but make no mistake, it is a 24 year old motorcycle with nearly 33k miles on it. It is what it is as is and is being sold as such. Located in Greenwood IN - a suburb of Indianapolis. $2000
