Does any have a portable tachometer that they have used and would recommend? I am looking for something that is sufficiently accurate (the manual says +/- 25 rpm) and yet affordable (have seen some upwards of $300). Some sort of inductive tach would probably be best.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Yes they do.
Also a good DVOM will have an Inductive Pick-up for a Tach signal.

Take a look at dwell meters. Pretty much all of them have built in tachometers. Ed

This is the one I use. It's pretty cheap. I think you can get them on ebay for $25 somtimes. The tach is very precise for doing mixture tuning.

It is sold under the Sunpro name, and the Craftsman name, as well.

Like any dwell/tach gauge designed for classic cars, you have to multiply the gauge numbers to get the true reading. For instance, on this meter you multiply the gauge reading by 4 to get the true RPM, and 8 to get the true dwell angle.

You connect it to one of the coil leads. I leave a short wire on the coil that I can access from under the tank without removing the tank.
