I have a general KZ750 Twin question - a friend of mine just bought one and has been working on it to get it ready to ride. The bike is titled as a '78, but the VIN says it is a KZ750 B2 - the Kawasaki site and others say a B2 is a 1977 model and a '78 is a B3, but also according to the factory parts diagrams, it has the B3 style front master cylinder for instance like a '78 should have. It is also green if that means anything. It at least appears to be all original and only shows 9300 miles. The MFG data is 7/77. Anyone have any ideas on what it really is since there seem to be a number of part differences between the B2 and B3???

I had a bike dealer once say that July was the cut date for the new model years ,Not Sept like cars , so it could be a early 78 ,, There are a couple serious twin guys on here so if you need anything or help in anyway I am sure it can be answered ,, :)

7/77 would be a 78 model (I think I have one manufactured in 7/77).

Master cylinder top on the 78 is kinda rectangular while 76-77 is round, charging system on 78-79 is permanent magnet with solid state reg/rec while 76-77 has a coil and separate reg and rec. Carbs may have minor differences (but I'm not sure).
VIN on frame match VIN on title?
Lots of parts have been updated on these bikes by previous owners over the years.

Yes, the VIN on the frame matches the title.

A common misconception.
The "2" in "750B2" in the VIN does not indicate model number, rather it is the first digit of a numerical sequence.
You have a '78 B3.

(1.) '75/'76 KZ400D - Commuter
(2.) '78 KZ750B3 Twin - Commuter
(3.) '78 KZ750B3 Twin - Commuter
(4.) '75 KZ400D - Sold

I own a 79 B, and just got a 78 for parts I also had oppertunity to look over a 77 fairly close, while these are the same model there are a lot of differences, the frame on my 79 is not the same as the 78, basically it is but where the engine mount on top and coil mounts are different, tank rear mount (rubber strap) is different, the 77 has a different harness and components.but I suppose at the end of year run a lot of bikes got the inbetween treatment as many kawasaki models did and sometimes it can confusing as to which model you have

Not to confuse things further  but my KZ650B has a MFG date of 6/77 but is a '78 B2 for sure. Sorry if this doesn't help:whistle:
