Denko exhaust-Kz 1000LTD
14 Nov 2006 21:44
Just aquired a "Denko" brand exhaust on Ebay, which is a left handed 4 into 1 header. Seller said it was rare, and I've certainly never seen one. Is anyone out there familiar with this brand of header?

Yea. I had a 4 into 1 Denco megaphone on my 76 KZ900 which exited on the right side. I thought it sounded great. I know they made expansion chambers for two strokes and have never seen another Denco 4 into 1 since mine

Good for you,I always liked those left side Denco pipes. They are rare, how much was it if you don't mind me asking. I've got a right side Denco pipe that was on my MKll when I bought it.
Dennis Dean was one of the original Kaw go fast guys back in the day.2 stroke and 4.

most all exhausts go to the right side, why? and the pipe are usually real long before they collect

Recalling the cool looking chrome left side Denco 4/1 on Z1's and KZ900's, it tucked in nice and close and reportedly performed well, with the only complaint being proximity to chain gunge slingoff which was plentiful during the early "auto-oiler" days.

that sounds like what I need. I've got a 81 csr 1000 with a sidecar. I've been trying to find something that comes out on the left. Anybody know where to find something to work on that bike/sidecar set-up. right now I have stock pipes, and they suck.

Thanks for the info. I got this header off Ebay for 80 bucks. Looked to be in good shape, but I plan to get it re chromed regardless as I'm restoring a 1980 1000LTD to attach to it.

Excuse me for sticking my nose in here, but you may want to consider a ceramic coating for that pipe.Looks and lasts better on headers than chrome imho. and doesn't go blue or rust.

I had that exact set-up on my KZ1000. I loved the sound and the performance I got when I married it up with some 29mm smooth bores! I wonder if you would like to part with it? Let me know and it might be worth your time. Thanks.

That Denco pipe is called a tri-cone. it is a very good torque exhaust, very good for smaller motors. ground clearance sucks. It has very small exhaust tubes & collector, works good with simple bolt on's.
The right hand side exhaust, was called a Mono-Cone.

Not all the denco's were tri cones. There was also just a standard megaphone left hand side pipe as well. The pic in the attached ad shows one.
I also have a left side Denco on my KZ650 which also is just a megaphone and not a tri cone.
