Help on Cam Timing
09 Nov 2006 02:53
Hi guys.
Have searched high and low both here and Google / Yahoo
and have not been able to find what I need.
I have not been able to get hold of a service manual
here either so am now on my knees..
I am in the process of rebuilding a 1983 GPZ1100
(ZX1100 A1). There are a few things I need info on.
1. What is the correct volume and weight of fork oil
2. What pressure do I need in the forks / rear shock
3. What are the cam chain alignment settings.
4. Recommended jet sizes on vacuum carbs. The DFI has
been replaced with carbs, pod filters and also a four
into one..
If anyone out there has a manual and wouldnt mind
looking up for me, it would be most appreciated.

You might want to repost your carb question in the carb section and mention what type carburetors and what airbox/pipes are on the bike.

fork oil 244ml plus or minus 4ml empty
210 ml normal when doing an oil change.
In my carbs I used a dyno jet kit from a 1983 KZ1000
mains pilots and needles have dyno jet part #s so they wont help except that it really easy to just order the stage 3kit and your done and it will work.TOM
air presure 7psi normal range is 0to 14 on the front forks iI would have to look up the rear shock but it is alot higher psi 42psi rings a bell but dont quote me on that one I know the front stuff is accurate.TOM

Thanks 1262 Tom.
Why did you go from the CV's to flatslides ?
I was considering swapping them for my Z1R carbs
but am looking for a good reason..

I kept having problems with my float sticking on one carb so I started looking for answers and in doing a lot a reading many of the people who are running modified kz/gpz motors run the flat slides,it seems that flat slides provide much better throttle response. They sure made a big difference on my bike, mind you I also went from 34mm to 36mm but the accelarator pump to my understanding is a fairly new idea and it sure seems to give a little extra kick from 1/4 throttle on. Post a question about This on the carb forum someone will have a more detailed answer than mine. I have read a few of wiredgeorges script he knows his stuff check the archives also TOM
