J Model engine number question was created by kzdragster
I've seen 1981 KZ 1000 J Model motors start with KZT00XXXXXXXX and I saw another 1981 KZ 1000 motor with an added prefix of KH1 before the KZT00xxxxxxxx. Set off lower than the KZ part. Both were non-shaft motors. Does anyone know what that motor is. Canadian, police, Etc. Thanks

Well, the sixth digit in the series will tell you if it is a J motor or a cop motor, e.g. I think it will be either a 'J' or a 'A' as the sixth letter. The KH1 may be a KHI (= Kawasaki Heavy Industries) and I'm not familiar with its use in an engine number. Maybe it was a set of replacement cases, or something.

KZDragster, don't know much about the "J". However, here is some of the earlier number sequences. You will notice, as Mcdroid points out, the 5th & 6th letters are applicable to the model. Sorry no 1981's....... May be of some help!

Hey guys, thanks for the info. I just learned of some new information. It is a "J" after all. The previous owner mentioned that it was rebuilt at an earlier era, possibly half- life ago. Looks like it's been a while by the looks of the gaskets. Motor is free turning.
Much appreciated.
