I ride a Concours fulltime and my 82 1000 LTD part time. I recently adjusted the valves and tuned up the LTD and it was running fine. I did not change the oil at the time of the tune-up.

I changed the oil a week later with Valvoline 10w-40 and my valve cover started to leak! It's a small leak at the left front corner of the valve cover. I can't tell exactly where it's coming from.

I guess it's time to take out those rubber pieces and seal them because the gasket is already sealed.

I'd appreciate any observations, recommendations, etc.

that's not a problem! it's a feature!

all kz's come with an automatic chain/pantsleg/boot oiler.

I am suspicious of any kz that does not leak oil at the cam plug / valve cover area.

The cam end plugs can leak, that's always a problem. I recommend Yamabond #4 on them. No reason the gasket itself should ever leak, and no need to use any sealer on it. If it's leaking you probably got a piece of debrie from an old gasket or something on the mating surface.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

I sealed the gasket and didn't do the cam plug as it's different than the ones on my 1980 model. Oh well...something to do tonight!
