Not the drain plug...it's a plug on the right side of the engine, just above the point cover and just behind where the cylinders meet the cases. It can be seen in the KZR picture above. It's polished.

By the way, most of the gauges I've seen are actually 1/8" npt, not 3/8" as I had mentioned earlier.

The oil gallery ports are Japanese Pipe Thread. Japanese Pipe Thread is identical to British Standard Pipe Thread, except on flared fittings where the flare is reversed. NPT fittings can be used but they are often one thread out. I use an NPT adaptor to feed the turbo on my bike from the rearmost oil gallery plug. As a matter of interest when I had my 750 turbo engine up on a CNC measuring machine the distances between the shafts (crank, primary, gearbox) were all round measurements in INCHES, not mm. The first Kawasaki was of course a copy of a BSA, so perhaps some British history lurks inside the 1000 and 650 engines...

Could the MKII be different? My 14mm x 1.5 die fits perfectly. No slop at all.

The way that i can install an oil pressure gauge on by bike is that the standard threaded bolt that goes into the gallery has been drilled and tapped and an elboy installed into the standard bolt then the gauge hooked up.

That link is a pic showing the set-up on my '78 GS1000. Some of the GS's have the bolt located under the points cover instead of above and slightly behind. It's either one or the other.

I tried to look up your bike on bikebandit... I didn't see a listing for an MKII?? If you have a parts breakdown for your bike, compare it to other KZ1000's and 900's and see if the part number is the same for the oil gallery bolt or block off bolt. I have fitted many of those adapters on KZ900, KZ1000 and Z1's 74-80. They have all been 1.25 thread.

The MKII is the "A" model for 1979. It does have the same part number as the others for that plug. Maybe the 1.5 die fits the 1.25 thread since they are so close?? All of the adapters I was able to find were also 1.5 thread. I guess that 1.25 adapter is definitely a rare item.

Yes, rare. I couldn't find anything to work, so I have them made. Plus if you do find something, usually they are too long. There is a small hole that can get blocked if the adapter is too long. You can always drill and tap your existing bolt. I tried that, and it worked, but looked like crap (at least to me).
