KZ440 - Running on one cylinder was created by bullitt00692
I have a '82 KZ440 and it appears to be running on one cylinder. I say this becuase the #1 cylinder exhaust pipe is warm when the #2 is too hot to touch.
I'm getting spark to the plugs and the plugs show the spark when I ground them to the heads. I had the coil tested both when hot and when cold and it is fine. The timing looks good.
What should I test next - Any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks,
Lou

Not sure if this is related or not, but when I try to start the bike, I hear clunking sounds it almost sounds like the starter is disengaging and engaging or could it be the pistons hitting something - I backout the plugs a little thinking it should be the plugs, but no difference.

With the 440 I think you have just one coil. I would suggest you swap the plug lead from cylinder 1 to 2 and from 2 to 1 and see if the problem follows. If so the check the plug lead and plug cap etc. Maybe get fresh spark plugs while you are at it.
It the problem still persists then check the valve clearance.
If problem still persits then it may be time to check or clean the carbs. Question - when you try to start and then remove plug # 1 does it look wet with gas or is it dry ?
An engine not running on one cylinder will usually sound clunky.
You mentioned backing out plugs. If the plug is not seated correctly or is loose then you are likely to have no compression and so will not get combustion. The spark plug should be turned until just snug and then give it an extra 1/4 turn.
