The joint where my headpipes join the muffler leaks. Is there supposed to be some type of gasket or something to seal this? *Can* there be? I have tightened down the collar clamp bolt as far as I can, but it still leaks some when you rev it up. Note the black smudges ahead of the collar in the pic - it blows forward from the joint.

Maybe try a muffler tape wrap to make tighter seal.

I was thinking of that, but wouldn't that stuff melt down and effectively fuse these two parts together? Then again, if I never want to take the muffler off without the pipes (which just might be true if I think about it for a while....)

Back when I had the stock pipes on my 77 650 I had leaky seams all over the place until I took the exhaust appart and reassembled it on the bike again. By taking all the pieces appart I was able to reallign all the juncture points and the leaks pretty much went away.

You can buy a sealer from a parts store that needs to heat set ,, I will say kinda messy though , I have used on Bikes with good results
