Two questions. What is the typical life span of KZ1000 engine in stock form that has been well maintained?
What is the opinion of running synthetic motor oil in these engines?

We just went through this. Most say around 40,000 and it's time for a top end rebuild including timing chain & guides. I guess synthetic might make the bottom end last longer but the top end of air cooled engines don't last very long. You might want to start looking for spare parts/engines if you ride much.I've decided to keep mine, only ride it on occasional weekends and just keep my eyes open for spare parts. Think of a aircooled Kawasaki like you would a Model T Ford... They are old and neat but you wouldn't want to drive it every day.

can you link me to the thread with the previous discussion?
The bad news is i do ride everyday, it is one of my main modes of transportation, both by choice and neccessity.
Are there any warning signs so i at least won't end up stranded or ruining more than i need to?

Yep, Me too. I bought the 1100 with intentions of riding it every day like my water cooled Honda. I've since found out they don't last and 200,000+ is only a dream for it. Oh well, It's still a neat bike and I plan to keep it. I think it will still be a neat bike, Just can't rack up the miles like a water cooled bike. Here are a few links to what I've found out. kzrider.com/component/option,com_joomlab...ew/id,76954/catid,2/ kzrider.com/component/option,com_joomlab...id,2/id,69849#69849/ kzrider.com/component/option,com_joomlab...it,20/limitstart,20/The bad news is i do ride everyday, it is one of my main modes of transportation, both by choice and neccessity.
