Help me decide was created by Mikes82KZ1100
Trying to decide if I should keep it or sell it.On my 82 1100 Spectre, Are pistons and cylinders available? Do the bottom ends hold up (in mild driving conditions) fairly well? How many top end rebuilds before bottom is junk? I average around 75,000 miles a year but thinking of just using the KZ on the weekends so maybe only 40,000 per year. From what I've read, that would mean a possible top end rebuild every 12 months or so. I looked at Z1 and the timing chain and guides etc. are around $230 but they don't list cylinder or pistons. If the cylinder and pistons are around $400.00 then I might go ahead and keep the bike. Maybe round up a spare engine to re-build and have ready to swap out so there is not much down time. I can spend $3,000.00 on a Honda PC800 and get 150,000+ miles easy. I can spend $2,500.00 on re-builds and get around 160,000+ miles BUT on a bike that I like(KZ) and a bike that fits me better. That is IF The bottom end can LAST that long AND the piston/cylinders don't cost more than $400.00. Help me decide

at 75,000 miles a year, I think you would be money ahead just buying a new bike every year.

Well from what I've seen, Ones in decent shape are going for 15-1800.00. That's probably what I'll ask after I get it running right. I'm going to look at a 2000 Voyager "project bike" in the morning. I wonder if the 1200 water motor would fit in a 1100 frame Hmmmm.... I don't think there is room for the radiator.Hmmm! How much you want'n?
