Ask 100 different guys, you'll get 100 different answers.
I prefer Golden Spectro, but there's alot out there.

Well, I'm just one of 100... I use Shell Rotella deisel fleet oil. Its synthetic, has great resistance to thermal breakdown (good idea in an aircooled MC), and works very well with a wet clutch. I use it in a high output Racing Four Stroke (yea, I race a KTM...) and the clutch really likes it. (Great feel, no squeal, and little wear). Best of all, its relatively inexpensive: they sell it by the gallon at any autoparts store. Wallmart, too, I think.

i used to use castrol gtx ....
but now have switched to rotella 15-40...
and i agree the clutch likes it.
i ride everyday...aand i ride it very hard.
i change the oil about once every two weeks..
my engine has a lot of miles and a lil more blow-by...
so it blacks the oil up very quickly..
there has been lots of debating on oil for motorcycles..
do a site search and you should find plenty of opinions:)

I use shell 15-40 rotella and the first time i put it in it seemed that the shifter got sticky or stiffer, i dont know if it had to do with the oil but im still using it. I work on trucks and the factory service limit for changing that oil is 35000 miles! My dad used it in his truck and had over a million miles and when they tore it down the factort cross hatch was still visible on the cylinder walls. He changed oil every 10,000, most people change every 12,000. I do notice that when i change the oil on my bike,kz900, it seems the same as when i put it in. I do change oil early though, like sometimes right after a hard 100 mile run on a hot day. Take no chances with oil. Ive heard many drivers tell me they have 2mil. on the motor with mobil delvac. So they all seem good. Seems the detroit is common for alot of miles, but the somebitches are always leaking from the rear seal and it drips on my head. Time to put a sock in it! later.

just got back from da shop!
7..8 hours for an oil change?
well ok oil change, some tweakin, an a lil spin.
i don't know if it was just the fresh oil or what. the crap i drained was so funky it scared me. i had no idea it was that bad, but i could sure tell the difference. it runs better, quieter, and shifts a lot smoother. all they had was 15-40 but i think she likes it.
i use to use castrol in my isuzu diesel pup but, i changed it a while back, 2 or 3 yrs, and i noticed some metal shavings on the magnetic drain plug. i think about that time i bought an old '68 dodge pickup and found the slant six forum, anyway i read some research on oil, rotella & wix oil filters were spose to be about as good as ya could get. i've been using it in every thing since. i don't know why i thought the bike would be different..maybe it was just that if it can be screwed up i can do it.....
the lil isuzu has 260,000 and still doesnt use any oil, is startin to sling a lil.
thanks again,
bill

I'm no expert on oil but I just changed the oil in my recently purchased 88 KZ1000P using GoldenSpectro 4, which I purchased at a Honda/Kawa dealer. The change was dramatic. I have no idea how old the existing oil was, but the filter looked like it was overdue. After changing, shifting was so smooth I though something was wrong.
Best Wishes
