have read a few negative comments on seafoam in here...and i have to say i like it. Use about half a bottle in my bike because plugs were pretty carbon fouled from a shit battery...ran the piss out of it and pulled the plugs the next day and there was a noticable difference...and yes with the same shit battery...just replaced it..:blush:

A word of advice. Do not put Great Stuff into your tank. Bad things WILL happen.

I've been running SeaFoam through my SR with no ill results. Since it (sadly) doesn't get ridden every day, I think it's one of those "apple a day" type of things.

As reported in the KM Forum Seafoam is 50% pale oil, a refrigerant mineral oil, 30% naptha, and 20% isopropyl alcohol.

Please share with us your experiences using lacquer thinner and who gave you the idea...or, where did it originate? Sounds pretty old school and I think I like it! :P Oh yeah, and seafoam just went up in price at my local hardware store...I've been threatening to order it by the case online! ;)

Except for a smattering of ketones it's pretty much the same stuff.
aliphatic hydrocarbon 50%, Isopropanol 25%, and 25% other stuff, most of which are napthas

the devil is in the details, but it seems to work

Thanks Duck, I'll have to give it a try. I almost always have lacquer thinner around the house for parts cleaning, solventing, and gunsmithing.
I don't think "solventing" is a word either, but I like it. :P

so what exactly is seafoam, laquer thinner, and great stuff supposed to do to the bike? clean the carbs?? sort of like and injector cleaner? I bought some GUNK carb cleaner additive today, through it in and im hoping i will see results.......anyone had any succes with this stuff?

U guys are all nutsm, why dont tyoull clean to yur carbs firstr, den get the real resultm earlyer than the ea wait see thing... and theres yur foam. fomin at the mouth id say. yikes

I've got this one, guys.

Some use the seafoam as a preventative measure, some as a way to get through the riding season, and some, like my good friend who runs an independent shop, as a start to make things easier when he does tear into them. He deals with alot of old bikes, and has found that carbs and combusion chambers and such are easier to clean, sometimes alot easier, when most of the junk is already removed and the other junk is softened up.

And for guys who have hard airbox boots, it can save hours of pain and agony.

Sure, professional carb cleaning is the best option. But I don't think there is anything wrong with making a job easier. Do you?
