Regarding kicking over my 650 to what I remember of my KL250 (I remember a sore right arch most of the summer), the 650 is much easier and gentler. I think it has to do that the 650 has more mass going with you and no one cylinder has the volume of the 250. I like using the kicker when the engine is cold to save the electric starter's clutch.

I use the kicker in the summer because it starts on the first or second kick. I use the starter when it gets colder because it can take a couple of seconds or so.
I actually just replaced the seal that is in the housing around it last week as it started to leak a little.

I used to have a GT380 Suzuki 2 stroke that I regularly started by hand with the kickstart! Easiest starting motorcycle I ever had. Got a lot of looks starting it like that and a lot of people wanted to try it. The early Gold Wings had a kick start pedal stored in the tank. You took it out and plugged it in and kick started the motorcycle. Then stored the pedal back in the tank. Of course most of the time you used the electric. You just did that for effect or low battery.

Wish I had a kickstart. The 750 is the first bike I ever owned without one. Believe it or not but I actually had a car once that had starting handle and I had cause to use it on occasion.

My cb400A is kickstart only. I couldn't see putting a $25 battery in a $100 bike
