RPM's at highway speed was created by 2bskor
I am new to bikes and I usually drive in the city. I drove my bike at 100k/hr or about 55 mph and it was revving at 3500 rpm to me it sounds like it was in 4th gear but it wasn't. Does anyone else have a kz1000 perhaps thats normal?? I am used to my van with overdrive I guess. Are the kz's geared low??

Thanks for the info. I was afraid the pistons were going to fly out, man that sounds like high revs but I'll tell you at 100ks I still had lots of throttle left this bike scares me:evil:

You don't have to worry about the pistons flying out, take up to 10 or 11 grand,,  . Don't let the bike scare you either, just respecit it's and your limits.
As always,

...and my old 750 is at 4,500 - 5,000 rpm at 100k/hr. After a while you get used to the higher rpm and start to feel that there is nothing like the hum of a well tuned inline 4 just purring along at 5, 6 or 7,000rpm. It's the ability to reach high rpm that gives these bikes the HP and top speed. I'd say that at 100k your throttle is only halfway open. Thats a very powerfull machine you have there. Have lots of respect and ride safe

I gotta tell you. The most fun I have is taking it up to 6 or 7 k in 2nd or 3rd gear. It starts to pull and just runs away:woohoo: Hang On!

this is a '80 kz 1000.

I can run 55-60 MPH in 5th gear at about 4000k

My 79 KZ 1000 LTD's horsepower peaks at 86 hp @ 8,000 rpm. Redline is 8,500. Peak torque is at 6,500 rpm. The HP chart doesn't even start until 3,000 rpm with 30 HP. So your engine really is just loafing along at the rpm you quoted. Enjoy. :)
