Sounds like it's time for a complete tune up, including adjusting the valve clearances.

Check the resistance of the coils and spark plug caps, and scour eBay for KZ440 timing advancer/pick up/ignitor to convert your bike to electronic ignition (but I bid on every one listed for a decent price)
Thanks for the advice. I got a question or two.
What’s the benefit of changing the ignition. In addition, are there any good websites that show how to do this? About how much does it cost to do something like this?

I'm working on my third conversion
If you can't find an ignitor, loudhvx has a page on building your own using an HEI module from a GM car and three other componets. Costs less than $20 to build it.

Just for the sake of corroboration, the worst I get is 44, and my average is around 48mpg. My entire commute is city and urban though, no highway.Sheesh, I hammer on them and waste a lot of gas and the worst I get is 45 mpg, with 55 mpg being normal

This sounds just like that other dude a few days ago. He ended up having a bad plug wire or cap or something, right? Pretty much running on one cyl?
