Bike Not Starting was created by Frazzles
I put new oil and new gas in it. And the key ignition does nothing. I use the kick starter but I get just sputters. Is there any advice that i could be missiing that would get her at least started up or even act like it's going to start up. Also what does it mean when the key ignition does nothing when i turn the key? I feel that i may be getting close, and with all the help i'm getting here i'm sure i'll get her started up soon.
Thanks again.

when you say the key ignition does nothing, does that mean that the lights don't come on? Just this morning I turned the key on, and nothing happened, no headlight or instrument lights, and I just rode it yesterday without any problems. A quick check with a volt/ohm meter revealed a blown main fuse (yes I need to replace the old fuse block). Change the fuse and ride to work, no problem...

When you say the key does nothiong, you mean no headlight, horn signals? check the battery. It might be bad. If it spitting and sputtering, might not have enough juice to get it going, are if its not elec. might need to clean the carbs. How long has it set?

It's been sitting for 4 years. When i turn the key the lights on the panel do come on. It has a brand new battery and spark plugs in it. Also where would i find the fuse box in order to change the fuse. Again Thanks for the help. I think i may be in too fast of a rush to get it running. I just want that rush of knowing that i got this bike running.

How do you remove the side panels. So that i can access the fuse box. I also think i may have to get the battery charged, even though it's brand new, because i checked the lights and the headlight isn't really bright and the turn signals are not even working.
Thanks

The side panels just pop off (carefully), there are four pins that pop into four rubber gromments.
You did read my post in your other thread, right? (the carb thread)

Have you drained the tank and put in some new gas?

With a new battery you definitely need to charge it. The best way is to fill it up to the top line with the acid, then charge it at 10% of it's amp rating for 24 hours. Check the fluid level when you are done. My bike has a 10amp battery, I used a Smart Charger at 1.5 amps for a day. It was a little higher charge but it was ok and works good.
Your lights will probably get brighter and the starter may turn over, (the starters weren't great on this model) but with old corroded connections you can't be sure. Check the bulb sockets for corrosion, use some steel wool, contact cleaner , and dab some di-electric grease in there.
