KZ 650 exhaust was created by silverbandit
Hi guys,
I just bought a 77 KZ 650C sight unseen. It's pretty nice, but I'm a little baffled about the exhaust (ooh, that was bad).
The system appears stock, but the headers don't run down parallel to each other, they do that criss-cross thing before joining into the mufflers. Is that stock '77 or were those fitted from a later model. My '78 C has a Kerker so I have no reference. Just curious.
Thanks

I think the pipes that criss cross in front of the engine were on 79's.
If not, somebody will correct me if I'm wrong.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

The crossover system was used on the KZ650D or "SR" as it's commonly called. Used on the 78-79 SR for sure, possibly later in the KZ650LTD series also.

Jardine made a replacement system that had #4 crossing over to meet #1 on the right side. and 2 and 3 went over to the left side. I bought a new system on ebay like that for my 78 650 C. It makes the exhaust pulses more balanced.

I have a 78 KZ650 SR like in neih's picture. It also has the crossed pipes on it. I wish mine was new like the picture. That looks nice.

Nice looking bike pumps. I have been reading this forum for awhile, but have not posted any pictures. Could you or someone else show me what is required to do so or point me in the right direction. Would really like to share some pictures of my bike. Thanks

Well there is a maximum size...heighth x width of pixels and file size. You may have to reduce the size of your pics to make them postable..(is that a word?) Then when you want to post you'll see at the bottom of your message when you are typing a message "Browse". Navigate to the pic you want to post and select it. If it is small enough it will be fine. Does that make sense?

Thanks for the help pumps, Here is a picture of my 78 KZ650 SR that I purchase for $1500 this last spring. It has 13500 miles on it. So far I replaced the tires with some Dunlop Gt501 front and rear. Installed new chain and socket set and a did a major cleaning on it. I am from Middleville Michigan. Ross
