Does anyone know what the minimum height can be on a Z1 900 cylinder block. I have a block that someone took an abrasive wheel to on the base to remove the gasket and did some serious gouging. So I would like to use this head. I plan on making sure the top is flat and then skim the bottom until flat but not sure how much I can remove without running into trouble.
Is it the block or the head ???
If it's the block i presume the liners are coming out so you can skim the base.
You should measure the piston height with the block bolted back down on the cases with a used base gasket and see how much distance there is from the edge of the piston crown to the top of the liner.
They are never at zero deck height unless it's already been skimmed or blueprinted etc.
Once measured that is the max figure you can skim from the base but if that isn't enough to get an acceptable finish you can always go further and use a spacer under the block to set the deck height or double up on the base gasket to ensure negative deck height and keep the piston in the hole..
