1000J Head Gasket not Fit

Reassembling my 1000J with 72mm MTC pistons.  I bought a Cometic 2 piece composite head gasket  for the 72mm and it doesn't fit.  The 2 interior(next to chain) bolt cutouts do not are not as big enough and interfere with the APE studs.  I tried the gaskets in the Vesrah gasket kit and they don't fit either.  Is it normal to have to trim them out?

Could someone also confirm that their are no pins between the cylinder block an the head.

Yes, and yes.

Those fiber head gaskets need to fit snugly between the studs...and over the locator dowel/pin at the ends of the block.

I found a round file useful to shape each stud notch...carefully, because the gaskets have a metalic mesh core that is difficult to cut, and is easily distorted.

Found the locating pins.  Head gasket fit is interesting,  I'm planning to but in the oil corner O rings dry or just  dab of sealant to locate it.  JoesPP did my piston fitting and he likes 1184 everywhere, but if too much is put on it could easily impede the oil flow.

No sealant worked well, based on the recommendation of one, Jeff Saunders/Z1E...some years back.

Check that the gaskets don't crowd the center O-ring, pressing it toward the chain tunnel...had to sand/file that gasket edge a small amount to clear.
