Camshaft cover gasket
08 Mar 2026 07:09
I have removed the camshaft cover to get all the pitted chrome removed so i can get it polished. I was just wondering, can i reuse the gasket for this as it is still in very good condition and came away from both the surfaces. Is this a reusable gasket.

Depends on the gasket, the cometic one I bought for my build is re-usable but most aren’t. Once they have been compressed they are unlikely to seal a second time

Wookie 58,
Not sure what type off gaskit it is, i believe its the original. It just came of so easy, didnt even have to tap it off. Wasnt even stuck. I have got a new one so i'll stick that on just to be on the safe side.

With all my Z1 and Z1000 Kawasakis, it's always been the same: as long as the valve cover gasket isn't broken, I can and always have been able to reuse it. I always apply a thin little RTV-black sealant over the rubber half-moons, and with even similar torque tightening of the bolts, everything has always been sealed...Thats my experience with the Z900 / Z1000 v-cover gaskets,..i dunno how it works p.e. on the later "R" or "GPZ"-models...
Greetings, Joe
