Doesn't look too bad, but more will eventually flake off down the road.
Chunks end up in the oil pan. Smaller pieces get trapped by the oil filter. The fine stuff, well...

Wow that picture is pretty bad. I had some in my oil pan when I removed it but nothing like that. Hopefully there won’t be any more things flying around in my engine. Thank you.Doesn't look too bad, but more will eventually flake off down the road.

I had the same issue, I assume it's due to age /heat cycles. IF you can find a new OEM unit you could replace it but like Daveo say it probably will continue. In fact i'm pulling that cover today to sort a small oil leak. Dave had a fairly good OEM unit I put on recently.

Could have been caused by that broken chunk of the starter idler boss you mentioned in another thread. The rest of that orange adhesive may be just fine as long as you have no more broken chunks of stuff rattling around in there.

the orange stuff is called glyptol. its an electronic glue/vibration damper.
