HELP!!!! Engine block fisured!!!!!

Hello to all,

I'm opening this post because I neeg guidance from the experts.

I'm currently in the long endeavor of turning my very bad condition z1900 into a restomod sactuary inspired beast.

Already all bike is completely disassembled and currently I'm focused on the engine and the frame.

Unfortunately I have found some fisures in different areas of the engine block.

Honestly I don't know how to proceed, at 1st I would like to confirm that it's possible to fix? and if it is what would be the best method?

I live in center Mexico and it's very difficult to find reliable welders, that is my current worry.

I would really apreciate your imput on this predicament.

P.s. If needed, maybe it's possible to get an additional bottom engine for cheap but honestly I would like to fix my current one.

Regards.

This is my bike

What happened?

I repaired some engine blocks using different products like epoxy and aluminum paste to stop an oil leak after a drive chain broke.

I'm not sure about the bearing housing, but there are good products like liquid steel | McMaster-Carr

You can also have a Liquid penetrant inspection....(Dye check) to reveal evrey cracks.

Good luck! / Buena suerte Amigo !

Those cracks are due to a previous owner not lining up the dowel on the gearbox and it's corresponding hole in the bearing race on assembly.
The crack where the bearing sits is due to the dowel being forced into the case and the other due to flexing of the cases when the case bolts were tightened.
The dowel needs pulling upwards to allow that crack to close up.
I've had the same situation on many of these cases and they usually aren't severe enough to cause a problem or warrant welding and are unlikely to get any worse as long as the same mistake on assembly isn't repeated.

If it’s bad enough to require repair it can be “stitch welded” but this is a specialised process that may not be available in your part of the world

Hey @zed1015 I followed your builds with the xjr1300 swingarm bikes, flawless job everytime.

Going back to my situation, In your experince would you leave it as it is? Or would you recomend some kind of reinforcement such as epoxy or something like that, I understand that in the contact surface with the brg is difficult to apply this kind of chemical but maybe outside it can help to avoid oil leaks in the future?

I would pull the dowel up to allow the crack to close and leave it at that.
The crack in the bearing saddle will be blanked by the bearing itself, the trans gasket and will be closed further when the case bolts either side are tightened.
The other one will get filled with case sealer.

Here's a similar repair situation.

Guess who (lol) followed Clymer's "penny" suggestion, way back in the day...
