Are magnetic drain plugs worth using on our Kaw engines?

As far as I know, the 73 to 80 Z1's, KZ900's, and KZ1000's had a magnetic drain plug from the factory, while the KZ650's and KZ750's during that time did not. (But feel free to correct or add to this)

Agree.  No assembly lube on fresh honed cylinder bore or on rings.  Yes, on the piston pin.  
Redline sez to use it on the piston skirts.

My old 82 motor drain plug thread is M20 x 1.5

The 84 is M12 x 1.5
