Info about Supertrapp KZ750 Header

This header has been on eBay for some time now.  It looks well used, but in good condition.  (top photo)

I had a carbon steel Supertrapp header before, but this is different.  I didn't like the one I bought, because it didn't tuck up close under the engine; there was at least a 2" gap.  (lower photo)

Does anyone have info about this exhaust?  Hopefully, it will work with the centerstand, and tuck up tight under the engine.

Ed, I do not have any info on the pipe(s) in question. But the pics you posted appear at least to my old eyes as 2 different systems. I am assuming that one of them is the one for sale and the other is the pipe you had and did not like. Help me out which is which?

First photo shows the unit in question, second photo, the unit I bought, and rejected.

I think the second is after Kerker bought Supertrapp.

I don't know about that brand name of pipe but was told by a expert that short head tube pipes (to the collector) make power at higher RPM so they are usually marketed as race systems. That first pipe looks to have short head tubes, a lot shorter than the black paint pipe.

My "offer" on eBay was accepted, so I'm the new owner of that stainless Supertrapp exhaust.  Hope it tucks up tight under the engine.  There are no bash marks on the bottom of the header, so that means either it does fit tight, or the owner was very careful.

The header flanges need clean up, to remove rust.  Gotta figure out how to go about that.  Maybe find a narrow container, and soak in Evaporust?

The muffler need refurbishment.  Maybe Cerakote?

Regarding this being a "race" pipe, I'm hoping not.  Main thing I'm hoping is that it will clear the centerstand.  If it doesn't, I'll have a difficult decision to make.

Maybe Evaporust in a cut down 20 oz plastic soda bottle, one for each pipe?  Of course, you'll be losing out on the bottle deposit!

I have a similar shaped short head tube pipe that came on a bike I bought and it did not have a center stand. That bent tube from the collector to the muffler is the culprit and it also impedes getting the oil filter out.
Hoping that is not the case with the one you just bought, but you never know till you install it.

This one was tucked up pretty close to the oil pan on the 650.

Worth a try in any case with the high price of new pipes! Good luck.

I would be surprised if you didn't lose the center stand, i now the Kerker/supertrap on my 550 fits tight under the frame but had to lose the center stand and has to be dropped to change the filter.

Received the pipe today.  Overall, condition is very good.  The header is dent free.  The rusty flanges are carbon steel.  A little bit bowed.  I'll straighten, if I can, and derust.  The muffler has a corrosion patch which will take some sanding to remove, but no dents.

Header tubes are 1.5" OD, 2.375" collector.  Pretty big.  Not the best match to my stock engine.

Have to check for center stand clearance next.

My existing pipes have a patch on the header where the paint flaked off, and the RH muffler has a scuff, from when my kid tipped over at 0 speed, while I was teaching him to ride.  I'll remove these, and refinish them, at the same time as trialing this new pipe.  Got me a couple of small projects on my hands...

@sf4t7 The water bottle idea was a fail, but Stone IPA cans fit perfectly!!!  Thanks for the suggestion.

To compare, the pipe I posted pics of has 1.50" head tubes and 2.75" collector pipe.

That pipe was made by Joe Charron, a guy local to me who use to work for Gary Wolf. I believe they designed the pipes similar to Bassini units.

I fixed that pipe up and its going on a future 761cc DFI build.

I'm getting ahead of myself on this, but planning to bead blast the header to clean it up.  Injected has it right, in that the primary's are short.  The entire header will easily fit inside my blast cabinet.  Main focus will be on the collector, down in the nooks and crannies.  320 grit shop roll will be used to dress the header pipe proper.  Gotta love stainless steel exhausts.  There is no real corrosion to speak of, just some dark metal patina.

Do not think this will add much regarding Ed's new pipe. But did want to point out there is an old post/topic located here about pipes. Many of the pics are no longer there, but there is some good info on pipe sizes (ID, OD length etc) that others may find of interest.
