Oil Filter Mounting Bolt
30 Mar 2025 12:41
First oil change on 1978 KZ 1000. I have the spring that goes above the KN 126 filter but not a washer. The problem is the mounting bolt has two holes and not a spring ball or pin. No hole for a pin in bolt.
Any help with part numbers would be appreciated. Thanks, Kevin

So part numbers are:
oil filter bolt 92001-1074 or 92023-193 first supercedes the second number
o-ring 22mm 670B2022
washer 92022-1012 or 92022-220
spring 92082-1018 or 92081-108
Nothing goes into the holes in the bolt...the holes are for oil pass through.

Thanks for replies. That bolt with four holes is the one I have. I saw the following member post with a valve in the bolt (spring, ball and pin). I’ll use the four hole bolt that was in the bike, 1000 A2.

The picture you have posted with a relief valve in the bolt is for a 750 E1/H1 (totally different motor)

Yes, as everyone mentioned, You're gathering information from the wrong model. During the run of the Z900/1000, 1972-1980, TWO types of oil filter cover assemblies were used. Neither used a check ball within the filter bolt. Early version had the o-ring within the cover, later was underneath the head of bolt. And covers were suited differently for the two styles. Note in picture, early one is in top of photo with it's parts tag laying on it with number. McDroid is correct about the superseded "later" style too. But that's just cosmetic for the head of the bolt and maybe finish plating.

By the way, the spring and washer go UNDER the filter, not on top of it. The washer should be against the rubber seal on the filter and the spring should be between the washer and the cover plate, so that the spring pushes the filter farther up into the engine.
