Wanted! Reduced base circle cam shafts
22 Jan 2025 06:56
I need some reduced base circle camshafts for a PIT STOP PERFORMANCE cylinder head. After 2500 miles the clearance with stock cams is getting way tight. I would like a set of drop in cams.A nice set of street cams for stock pistons.

Would it not be more cost effective to "tip" the valve stems ?

I agree with the other replies, way easier and cheaper to tip the valves (any automotive machine shop can do it) Plus I don't think your ever going to find those cams.
Most "drop in" cams have stock base circles (never seen any that didn't) and in most cases reduced base circle cams are very high lift for drag racing purposes. The only way you would find KZ street cams with reduced base circles would be cams that had been ground due to a repair (very rare)

Have you run out of stem height and are on the thinnest shim ?
It seems unlikely that a head would come from Pitstop on the maximum stem height and run out of clearance after only 2500 miles ?
You do know that the clearance is adjustable with shims don't you ??????
Also reduced base circle cams are ground that way to allow the use of a very high lift race profile ( usually for drag racing ) without excessive clearancing of the head so it's unlikely you will find a street grind with a reduced base.

Time for larger valves and the work that goes with them. Did he give you the option of larger valves and you declined?

This sounds like total BS to me, when shops do a valve job they aim to be in the middle of the shim range - period.
If it was me I would complain and ask for that valve job to be corrected free of charge. 2500 miles is nothing and stock valve seats don't "move" so there is no excuse for shoddy work.
Is it just on one valve? If it is then that is a glaring mistake!
On a proper job all valves should be sunk even and tip length should be very close. Sounds like a Pit Stop screw up!!

Way back when you'd gotten it back from Pit and before installation, did you bench check any of the initial clearances or just assume it was going to be correct?
