4 into 4 pipes Doremi, PMC vs Delkivic
16 Jan 2025 09:42 - 16 Jan 2025 20:09
For those of you contemplating new 4 into 4 pipes for the Z1 and Kz models here are a few comments on each. I have installed 10-12 sets most of which were Doremi, PMC and way back a new MRC 4 into 4 pipes. How ever we now have Delkivic offering their 4 into 4 pipes. A while back I was looking at exhaust systems for a project of mine and really wanted a Kerker but they are impossible to find in good condition at a reasonable price. So I came across Delkivic on ebay selling their system for $1099 which they are still offering on ebay with $120 shipping. Mine came without shipping so I could not pass it up. So I finally got to mount them last night. Here are my observations. Both systems mounted fine. The Delkivic alignment was slightly better at the rear connection between the upper and lower. For some reason on the last set of Doremi the left side was slightly out of alignment making a bit more difficult but not impossible. Delkivic supplies a bolt, washers, nuts for the rear mount but the bolt was way to short so a trip to the hardware store solved that issue. The rubber piece and clamp that joined the upper and lower pipes was designed better on the Delkivic pipes which should provide a better seal.
Build quality is good on both brands but the only complaint was on the weld finish on the Delkivic. The seam that welds the two half together is not ground down or smoothed in any way compared to the Doremi as you will see in the photos. Also the Delkivic has the stamping as you would see on the later factory pipes. All in all the Delkivic is a good product for the money if you can get them for the $1099 price. The weld bothers me a bit but I will get over it.
Photos of the Doremi pipes, notice the seam weld.
And Delkivic , notice the seam weld and stamping

Agree with you, welds cosmetic can be improved.
Very nice bike....piece of art !
Any idea of this model? I'm happy to see these pipes like on a brand new bike but not as loud !
Maybe it's a hearing loss on my side...Laughing out loud!

Both of shown 4-4 systems looks pretty well, same as the bikes, congrats!
..But how we all will remember. The original 4-4`s from `72 to `76 have all the same "imperfections" at the weldings,..NOT so clean and straight as from the Doremi...
Versus that, the Doremi looks like a masterpiece made by laser-welder-robots , ore like that...
Anyway, great pipes !!!
Ride on!

Are there inner pipes in the head pipes on any/all sets to help resist discoloration of the head pipes at the the first bend?

I have Doremi pipes on my Z1B. Had them since 2015. Liked them enough to buy another set for another Z1B I restored. This winter I took. them off to change an oil pump and I noticed on the inside of #3 pipe, on the muffler half but just behind the joint to the manifold pipe there is a small sealed welded hole. This is not the hole on the bottom of each pipe. The weld has popped out on #3 pipe. I haven't fixed it yet but I plan to dab some JB Weld on it.
I like what Delkivic has done with the stamping. It should bring down the value of any remaining original pipes. I also had a set of those but I sold them to a friend.

Yes the Delkivic is a doubled wall header pipe. I won't be able to start the bikes for a few months so dont know how they will compare in sound although the baffle appears similar top the Doremi. I will need to double check for drain holes. Hardrock it appears the factory may have covered that in error. All of the 4 into pipes I have mounted Doremi, PMC, MRC, Delkivic have double wall construction.

It must have had something to do with fabrication, as the other three pipes also have a slight indent there. But on #3 a small piece had popped out. The pipes are back on the bike so I can't take a photo without removing that side again. If you want to check yours...it's on the inside when mounted, a couple of inches behind the weld between the muffler and the manifold.
