Hyd clutch and 6 speed
22 Oct 2024 01:05
Still working on the KZ I had done a tear down over the summer with some updates of a hyd clutch and ( 6 speed I had gotten some years ago) , was going to put the trans into a track project but figured id try it out since i had the motor down probably not the best idea
. will give some updates as to the transmission once I sort out the clutch . The transmission was a blind install no instructions hopefully all will be well .

Yes rich67, a great (next BOTM) bike you have build.
You and your bike give me the inspiration to change my wheels and maybe the (mono shock) swing arm this winter.

Hey guys sorry for the late reply , busy working all the time. Thanks for the kind words, hoping to do some more work on the bike this weekend if possible , the transmission shifts to 6th gear, I need to take it for a few more rides for carb tunning and since re sleeving the motor some break in time , The clutch works good but I don't know what springs I have installed as far as spring tension and don't fell like buying an expensive spring gauge for one time use . I have seen people use scales and drill press to get tension but I would say one would need a calibrated scale , and calibration spring , I am hoping to find some one local with a spring gauge arbor to check them , as i would like to have a little lighter pull with the lock up , Still its not to bad right now , just wish i had more time to finish up .
Wookie58 so sorry for not getting back to you with pick , can you send me another email ?
Scirocco , Thanks for the kind words , Yes I like the gsxr 1000 wheels , Pretty light for stock Suzuki wheels and I like the look . I did have to clearance the frame for the 6 " wide wheel and have all my old pics on a memory stick . I will post some pics this weekend as I have Saturday off and will hopefully get some time to work on the bike , I will give an update over the weekend , Cheers and thanks every one for getting to this point .

Re: Hyd clutch and 6 speed
01 Nov 2024 12:43 - 01 Nov 2024 12:52I am not sure what brand of lockup your using but a old MRE unit with stock 650/900 springs in it yields 46lbs per spring @ .990" installed height with a stock spring hat.The clutch works good but I don't know what springs I have installed as far as spring tension and don't fell like buying an expensive spring gauge for one time use . I have seen people use scales and drill press to get tension but I would say one would need a calibrated scale , and calibration spring , I am hoping to find some one local with a spring gauge arbor to check them , as i would like to have a little lighter pull with the lock up
I have one of those spring checkers you can use in a vice that I bring to the track.
You need to first confirm installed height to get any spring pressure checked. Most drag guys make up a sliding gauge to confirm installed height without any springs assembled as not all spring hats are the same (some used ones most likely are modified)
You can buy lighter springs but most guys start by milling the spring pads on the "hat" to lower the spring pressure. Stock springs are usually too heavy for most slick bikes. They then make up spacers to sit on top of the pads so the pressure can be adjusted. A lot of guys use old worn springs as they get "softer" with a lot of miles.
If you want a softer spring you can buy right away I do know that Honda CB750 springs = 42lbs @ .990"
That is 4lbs less per spring x 5 springs = 20 lbs less static on the hat.
