1982 KZ1000 LTD Shift Linkage Question was created by chaggy82kz
I'm looking for some information on Shift linkage adjustment. Pg 25 of the Clymer manual says to "Check over shift travel and increase if insufficient". I also downloaded the Service manual because I read that there was information on adjustment in there, but found nothing solid on adjustment. Up shifting from first to second, I get kicked into neutral after a shop service. I am going to try to move the shifter down a tooth or 2 - I think after the repair the shift pawls may not be rotating the shift drum enough for engagement into second gear. Problem started after the shift seal replacement. I would like to know the "adjustment" of the linkage if someone out there has it. Been sitting on this project approximately a yr now due to other shoddy work / fuel leaks that I am dealing with now. I have a spare engine/trans with good shift forks and gears if the problem ends up being in the transmission. Thanks for your expertise. On the plus side I had my tank and side covers painted. Pics to come soon.

Does this happen as you are driving, or when sitting still?

Happens when driving only after a shop had the cover off to replace shift shaft seal.

Are you sure it's not binding? There are three of them.

I can ship past into all other gears. I know it could be the dogs or bent shift forks, it is just odd it wasn't doing this before the shifter was off for the seal replacement.
