Outer crank bearing available? was created by slmjim+Z1BEBE
As we didn't have the load carrying capacity or space to deal with everything from the shop cleanout we did last year, the remaining items from are going to Mid-Ohio this year.

We have what appears to be a good bottom end sans jugs & head, with crank & complete tranny, Z1E - 0537xx, history unknown.    Cases had never been split until we did to clean internally & visually check condition of the tranny & crank.  Tranny looks OK, second gear dogs show only normal wear with no significant rounding.  No rust.  Shift forks are straight.  The crank is missing the caged roller bearing & snap ring at the timing end of the crank.  It otherwise seems OK; a 17mm precision-ground rod slides through all four of the small ends easily when aligned, indicating it's basically straight.

Are the caged outer roller bearings available seprately, or is the crank a very robust doorstop now?

Pearson, Gardner, and other good crankshaft rebuild guys would likely have the required bearings.  I've seen photos of their work, and they turn an ordinary crank into a showpiece.  Not cheap, though.

Hmmm.
Kawasaki, thankfully, often provides the universal bearing designation. Partzilla does not list the bearing on the ignition side separately, at least so far as I could find.
The bearing on the generator side seems to be an N PK 30 40 16.8X3. I did a general web search and specifically searched SKF and Carter, and came up with nothing.

I wonder if the bearings at each end of the crank are the same, if there is a newer part number, if the hurricane is going to hit us, what is the meaning of life?

Bottom line is, Ed is right.

It can be a door-stop if you want it too. But totally bizzare it's missing that bearing?? There in addition should be a thrust spacer and a clip that keeps it in place. I have the bearing/race/spacer and circlip. What were your intentions for the whole clump?

The outer race was still captive in the cases, of course.  It's the caged roller bearing, thrust washer & snap ring missing.  The bearing surface on the crank appears to be good.

Not sure what the inquiry, "What were your intentions for the whole clump?" is asking?  Our intent is to sell the bottom end at Mid-Ohio.  We neither need or want it, and It's been needlessly taking up floor space in the shop for a few years.

If you have the caged roller, thrust washer & snap ring to spare we'd like to talk.

Whole "clump" meaning the whole engine. I see You go that sales event. I occasionally buy the Z engine cases (only) for whatever project might arise. I've several transmission clusters/forks so not really in need of those items. Don't know if you had detached the clutch basket from the shaft? Always looking for "tight" spring baskets, ones that the springs aren't wandering loose under the plate.

Hmmm... Product Detail sez "Side bearing race inner diameter: 40mm".  That might be for a later J-motor.  Someone more knowledgeable of later big-pin cranks would know.  We don't have any to measure.

slmjim carefully measured the Z1 crank surface where the side bearing (inner) race O.D. is located, just inboard of the snap ring groove. Twice. Came up with 30mm both times.  I.D. of the outer race is 40mm.  So if the O.D. of the linked webike caged roller assembly is 40mm, and the I.D. of said assembly is 30mm it should work.

If a lead in CONUS that popped up the past couple of days doesn't pan out we'll contact them to clarify.

Thank You for the find!

Hey Jim!! I know you're not a "texter" and keep the cell for emergencies. Senior Cellular program, can't blame You. Your parcel with all the bits for RH or LH crankshaft are on the way.
