What it does is insert into a slot at the back of the ATU, so that when the ATU reads "T", the engine really is at TDC.
I've got my engine apart and I'm going through it with a fine-toothed comb. Unfortunately, in this process, I lost the crankcase seal which had the above part 18 in it. Although I would have replaced the crankcase seal anyway. I've got a spare (NOS) part 18. It's just a little bit of spring steel.
What I'm wondering is, how is this fitted into a regular crankcase seal? Do you drill a hole in it yourself? The crankcase seals you can buy do not seem to have a depression into which you can fit this spindle.
