Boring sleeves on a mini lathe was created by Injected
I bought some L.A. Sleeve liners to take a 1015cc barrel out to 1197cc.
My machinist who is installing the big bore kit asked me to enlarge the sleeves to within .030" of the final bore of 76mm.
The sleeve O.D. purchased was 70.5mm, I needed to open them up to over 75mm.
At home all I have is this 7x12" mini lathe for fabricating small parts. I found out my 3" chuck could hold the sleeves I just needed a longer stiffer boring bar. I figured I could do half way in then turn them around to do the other side.
indicated them
boring
Finished liner.
Sent them off with the barrel to get installed, finish bored and honed for my MTC pistons. Doing this saved him a lot of time and wear/tear on his boring bar, saved me some money as well.

They all varied depending on how they were indicated, between .001"-.004", some caught my finger nail and others did not.

That is pretty good, I have had to flip peices over because the quill on my mill did not give enough travel.
If the peice is not square to the world things can get out of wack in a hurry and you won't know until your at the end ofthe cut.

Yes, if your careful on the setup it can be surprisingly accurate.
I can usually cut to +/-.001" on it and very repeatable.
Its great for making parts that go on motorcycles.
Currently I am making a APE style clutch pusher.

What will the machinist do next? Obviously, install the sleeves, but will he do a final boring pass to get the sleeves ready for honing?

I would not classify my guy as a machinist, he is a one man motorcycle performance shop very similar to what Larry Cavanaugh was providing.
This is the finished honed barrel lubed up with fresh engine oil after the honing oil was washed off (was in a plastic bag to keep the dust off it till I install)
The liners set me back $450 and the install including the used 1015 barrel cost me $500 (Canadian $$)
The whole motor build up to this point (almost ready to assemble) has set me back about $5200 (carbs/cams/head work/barrel/pistons/crank etc) I am thinking its going to be at the 120HP level when complete.

He bored out the barrel to accept the much bigger liners (took about a pound of aluminum out!) Interference pressed the liners into the barrel using Loctite sleeve retainer. He then finished bored and honed for the MTC street pistons that he had in hand. The block was then fly cut to make sure the surface was flat. What will the machinist do next? Obviously, install the sleeves, but will he do a final boring pass to get the sleeves ready for honing?
