Carbs installed again. All vacuum ports blocked. Started well with just some choke.

Runs ok, and keeps good idle, but:

1.- when you rev it up it stays there for a while, then slowly comes back to idle (always read this is due to an intake leak, but sprayed with carb cleaner and saw no changes

2.- Right hand exhaust smokes quite a bit. Smells rich, not oil related. In the same exhaust there is a distinct misfire around 3-4000 rpm

The rest looks good. All 4 cylinders are firing, there’s no fuel leaks anywhere.

I guess I need to work on my “richness” part. I understand pilot screws are the ones to adjust here.

You could try disconnecting the throttle cable and rev it manually (this will determine if the "hanging revs are carb or cable related)
Smoke on a fresh built motor is normal (assembly oil needs to burn off which could take 100mls or so) if it's fuel smoke it would normally be black

Just more crap. Yamaha XS1100 also used the 34's. Same as Suzuki 3-bypass holes. But Cartel or anybody else curious, note the initial bench syncing by using the First Intake side bypass hole as a gauge. Set, same #3 initially then follow thru with the remainders. Won't get a screaming high idle and purposeful for drawing in petrol where it's initially needed, enrichment system. Same premise works for any Butterfly carb. Wookie is that like Lynard Skynyrd or just skynarding a Cat, rock and roll cat?

Clay It's an old English phrase when there is more than one way to achieve the same objective "there is more than one way to skin a cat"

Well… as our friend Winston said, “this is not the end, it’s not even the beginning of the end, but it’s the end of the beginning”.

It’s been a long time, and after so much time and effort, I just felt I needed to get all the shiny bits on the bike.

I know carbs are not yet ok, and I know there will still be a lot of fine tuning to be done, but I had to indulge myself.

Gentlemen, please take a look…

Thank you. I would have definitely never arrived here without your help.

Regards,

Carlos

Looks great Carlos, well done to you sir. She has recovered from her abusive previous owner.
Is that a Jaguar XJS in the background (you sir are a glutton for punishment :))

That´s a really keen eye, my friend. It is indeed, a V12 XJS. Actually, 2 of them. A UK one I owned back when I lived in London, which is very rusty, and of course RHD, and a Spanish "rolling chassis". Next project will be to change everything from one to the other. That is going to be a really long project!

Apparently the 5 speed manual from the 3.8 is a relatively easy conversion and makes the V12 a totally different animal :)

My methode to sync the carbs :

Sync carbs #4 to #3 = ( master pair #1)
Sync carbs #1 and #2 = ( slave pair #2) independent of cabs #3 and 4 (master pair #1)
Sync pair #1 (carbs #1 and 2) and pair #2 (carbs #3 and 4)

Repeat the procedere if needed for a fine adjustment.
