Stock OEM oversize pistons will retain the original compression ratio.
Are they "pocketed" or slightly shorter to achieve this?
The dome will be fractionally smaller.

Well they aren't responding so I don't think they have the pistons.

Is there any chance a 650 piston would work as an oversize on my 305? That's a 62 mm also, but I imagine I would run into problems elsewhere with those...

Edit: Bah. Look like those take 15mm pins and the 305 is 14. I don't think there's any way to fix that.

Edit 2: Nah, never mind, there's too much else to consider that is way above my pay grade. I must admit defeat and stop wasting time trying to get this anchor afloat again.

Check out this complete 4,700 mile e-bay engine. With that compression you would be taking some risk. But could be valves stuck partly open.

Yeah I've looked at that one and others several times and been tempted but they all seem too risky! I sank so much into this last year that I'm wary of throwing away more. However if I can't find a project bike before winter then I might as well gamble on something...

Electric conversion?

I saw a Yamaha DT175 that was converted using this kit.

EDIT: I've also been kicking around the idea of putting a Predator engine and centrifugal clutch in a frame to make a pit bike type thing. Of course, these options might not make sense if you want your KZ to be street-legal.

I loved the electric idea! Until I saw the price haha. No if I had that much money I'd buy a running KZ, but I'm scouring the area for one that I can get cheap and make run.

Good luck in your search. I contacted a seller on CL about a running, clean titled KZ440, but I couldn't get there during the week and someone else bought it.

And I've been going back and forth with a guy who had a non-running 440 he's been trying to sell since June, and as soon as I said I'm interested and want to come get it he stopped replying.
