There not going be fit and forget anymore than mikuni vm carbs.
It's a forty year old bike and a lot has changed to fuels in that time. Unless you compensate for thoses changes you'll just come up against the same issues every time you leave it standing for a while.
If you want ease of access stick with your vm' and add quality, not cheap shite, pods or stacks.
If you go down that route leave all jets and needles as stock except main jet needs to go up 1 or 2 sizes. However if you are sympathetic to the original carbs and airbox needs you'll be as trouble free as can be expected for a forty year old bike.
Alternatively buy a modern bike designed for modern fuels.

Seen them lots on KZ650/750 but at 29 mm they are a bit big for a stock engine.
26 mm version would be ideal but only come setup for KZ550 or Honda 400 etc. (right out of the box) jetting would not even be close.
The other factor is the cost, its crazy to put $1200 carbs on a bike that's only worth twice that much.
From guys that fit them it takes a bunch of time and brass (jets) to set them up correctly.
So are you wanting to put them on a perfectly in shape engine? (new coils/wires/180 PSI cylinder pressure/good oil pressure/perfect valve lash) Because if they are going on a weak low compression engine they won't make a damn difference if your jetting around running issues.
Like Warren mentioned the stock VM's when cleaned and tuned are the perfect carb for that engine. Kawasaki did employ Engineers that figured that stuff out. Take that $$ and get the carbs properly rebuilt by someone who will take the time to do it right, then spend the other half of the $$ on new tires and brakes
BTW - This should go in the carbs section.

Mikuni used to sell the VM29MM Smoothbores jetted for the Z650 but that was for use on fast road or race tuned motors with cams and headwork etc.
The CR's would be wasted on anything like a stock motor and a waste of money.
You would be better off either sticking with the stock 24's with K&N and air correctors or fitting some VM26's from a 900/1000 and doing the same.
