Kick starter on KZ400S Kick-Only

I have a 1975 Kawasaki kz400s kick only bike when I kick it down and it starts it does not return back up I have to manually do it but it won't stay up it just keeps on falling down now if I turn it off it will then return back up I take the side cover off and there's no bits or pieces broken but I don't know what to do
