1975 kz400 very loud valve tick was created by jrider24
So this bike was straight piped and very loud before I just put this muffler on. I could hear the valve noise before and checked the clerances on all of them and put them all within range. However, after doing that I could still hear the loud valve noise. I figures that was just how it is so I decided to leave it for now and put the muffler on. Now with it on and the actually exhaust quieter, the valve noise is even louder and more noticable. Does anyone have any incite on this? Since I already adjusted the valves I'm not sure what else I can do. I'm going to check them again when I have a chance to make sure they're still in spec. I attached a video so you can hear it. Thank you!

You will get a clicking noise from the header pipes if they are not sealed properly to the head

Yeah but it sounds more like on the intake side to me. I definitly think its not the headers.

And I set my valves according to the manual. I think it was between .01 and .015mm gap.

Sounds like he set the valve lash on both cylinder at the same cyl. #1 TDC cam position.
cyl. #2 TDC cam position need an extra 360 degree crank turn.

This happened to me with my KZ440 but it was just a fluke.
My choke plates were flapping in the bores.
You could pop off your filters to see if the sound gets louder.

I did remember to turn the crank another 360 degrees for cylinder 2. I did it the exact way the manual shows so I dont think I messed that up and the sound was just as bad before I did it. A couple were out of range but not too bad. I do plan on checking them again in the next couple days though to make sure theyre still correct.
